Norwood Grove is a 34.5 acre park with a mansion, bowling green and ornamental gardens. It is a quiet oasis, managed by Croydon Council. It is a remnant of the Great North Wood teeming with wildlife. Situated high on the Norwood Hills its lawns fall beautifully towards Croydon, giving wonderful views and almost unlimited horizons. It is one of the top 10 Wandle Valley Vistas with The White House, a beautiful Georgian mansion: http://www.wandlevalleyforum.org.uk/uploads/5/8/4/3/58438085/final-wandle-vistas-technical-report-part-2.pdf Bought by public subscription, Lambeth, Wandsworth, London County Council (now GLA), Croydon, The Corporation of the City of London and a number of societies. It was opened on 16 November 1926 by HRH The Prince of Wales. Some buildings and the ornamental garden need attention. In 2024 Norwood Grove was classified as At Risk by Historic England and CPRE. Unique features include a Martin Brothers fountain which has been vandalised and a bird bath dedicated to Stenton Covington which is not in use. Norwood Grove is close to The Rookery gardens, Streatham Common, The Rookery Cafe and Inkspot Brewery so there is plenty to do in the area. Parking is available in surrounding streets e.g. Covington Way, Ryecroft Road, next to Streatham Common and the part of Gibsons Hill accessed from Beulah Hill. Nearest lavatories are behind The Rookery Cafe. Most of the park is accessible for dogs except for a dog free area around the house. Norwood Grove is on the Capital Ring Walk section 4 of 15: Crystal Palace to Streatham. Please refer to the Capital Ring for a detour for those with dogs.
