Shepherd's Bush Green is an important green space in a heavily built-up area, offering a place for social interchange and respite from the surrounding traffic-choked streets for the local community. Historically it was once a marshy area with a ditch around the edge. Later it was used to display the bodies of criminals executed at Tyburn, to discourage others from following in their footsteps. Today the area is about to undergo a further historic change with the opening of the White City Shopping Centre.
